Australia’s Largest Olive Oil Producer continues to grow towards a sustainable future

The country’s largest olive oil producer, Boundary Bend Limited continues to grow through its expansionary initiatives in both Australia and the USA.  Producing over 65% of Australia’s and 20% of the USA’s annual olive crop, the business expanded in late 2018 with the launch of Boundary Bend Wellness, focused on the creation of soon-to-be released health and wellness products extracted through holistic and sustainable farming.

With Australian operations extending over 2.5 million olive trees across 6,600 hectares of Victorian farmland, and featuring two world-class olive mills with >120 tonnes per hour olive processing capacity, Boundary Bend continues to grow the domestic extra virgin retail category, and now accounts for over 40% of total grocery sales value.*

Rob McGavin, CEO and Executive Chairman at Boundary Bend said, “We are excited to continue growing our business and enter the nutraceutical space via our new olive wellness brand, Wellgrove™.   And we are particularly pleased to do this with our trademark commitment to producing superior quality olive products whilst at the same time improving our sustainable farming practices.”

After several years of research, development, trials and testing, Boundary Bend’s Innovation and Value-Adding initiative has created an opportunity to enter the supplement channel, with the introduction of the over-the-counter health and wellness brand, Wellgrove™.

The expansion into the wellness category is demonstrative of the business’ commitment towards zero waste.

“Through the introduction of our Wellgrove brand, as well as our recently launched Stone & Grove olive leaf teas, we are ushering in a new era of sustainable farming practices,” said McGavin.

“The rationale is simple; by utilising a former by-product from our olive farming operations and capturing an initially small but growing share of the 7.5 million kilograms of olive leaves we ‘harvest’ each year to produce Olive Leaf Extract and Olive Leaf Tea, we maximise the goodness we are sourcing from this superplant as well as increasing the output from key farm inputs such as water that are ‘invested’ into the trees. As a business, this strategy also helps shield us from major agricultural ups and downs and simply is better for community too.”

The Wellgrove range of all-natural products includes an antioxidant supplement – Wellgrove immune support olive leaf extract; an extra strength antioxidant supplement – Welllgrove heart health olive leaf extract; and an olive leaf extract-based throat spray and sore throat gargle. Wellgrove products are available nationally in Australia in Chemist Warehouse and leading Pharmacy’s, Health Food stores and Coles Supermarkets in the vitamin section.

In addition to the company’s expansion into the new wellness category, the business continues to focus on quality and research to help maintain the world-class standard of their flagship Cobram Estate extra virgin olive oils. With an unwavering focus on quality, innovation and customer satisfaction through all facets of the business, Boundary Bend is rapidly developing a global reputation as of one the leading players in the modern olive industry. Critical to Boundary Bend’s success has been the ability to consistently produce premium quality extra virgin olive oil in large and growing quantities. The business continues to push for high quality whilst keeping costs low and expanding production. Boundary Bend has recently completed its Autumn planting of over 570 hectares (203,000 trees) at its Boort grove and also finalised an agreement with a third party on a new grove development of 1,000 hectares close to the Boort grove.
